The U.N. security council’s decision to bolster sanctions against N. Korea is being defied by the DPRK(Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea). The nation is currently enriching Uranium and plans to weaponize all plutonium. Plutonium can be used in atomic bombs, and enriched uranium can also be used in weapons grade materials.

North Korea refers to the U.S. as hostile forces isolating their nation and putting up blockades. They state that they are “ a proud nuclear power, and will not flinch”.

The U.N. security councils unanimously voted 15-0 on U.N. resolution 1874 to impose an embargo on the import and export of arms from the country.

The decision was made due to tensions surrounding the country, one of the main reasons being a nuclear test that was carried out, six short range rockets being fired, and threats to U.S. and South Korean warships.

This resolution also strengthens the 2006 U.N. resolution 1718, with new provisions. The sanctions committee is requiring a 5 day notification, before selling, transferring or supplying any small arms to the nation. Vessels will be forced to the nearest port for a mandatory inspection if it refuses to allow a state to inspect suspected ships.

So are these tests in response to “American aggression”? And what makes N.K. think that all these other nations, especially Japan, will just sit on their hands and allow them to enrich uranium, WEAPONIZE plutonium, carry out tests, and develop longer range missiles to carry warheads? This is obviously going to make everyone just a bit nervous, even more so with all the rhetoric that’s being spewed from N.K. officials.

North Korea must return to nuclear negotiations. If they don’t, more sanctions will be imposed, more rhetoric from N.K. and other concerned countries will escalate talks of war. This nation states they will not back down nor flinch, so what happens next?
